Housing affects us all – our social well-being, our community’s aesthetic appeal and stability, and our economy. Yet, purchasing affordable housing is out of reach for many working families. More than half of all adults have made at least one trade-off in the past three years to cover their rent or mortgage. Trade-offs includes taking a second job, cutting back on healthcare and healthy food, and moving to less safe neighborhoods.
Houses are not given away.
Zero percent financing is offered to qualified families for new homes.
Applicants qualify based on three criteria: (1) need for quality, affordable housing; (2) willingness to partner with Habitat for Humanity of Putnam (minimum 250 “sweat equity” hours and 10 hours of homeownership education workshops); and, (3) ability to repay a no interest mortgage;
$152,000 is the average cost of new house construction (including land);
$497 is the average monthly principle payment as of 2022;
Families are required, and the general public is welcome, to attend education and repair workshops instructed by volunteers with expertise in financial planning, insurance, etc.

About Habitat for Humanity of Putnam
OUR AVENUES
-
Affordable Homes
Habitat for Humanity of Putnam builds new homes in partnership with qualifying partner families and the community. These homes are sold with an affordable mortgage to provide families the opportunity to be successful, long-term homeowners. This program is not just about owning a house; it’s about having a home, building communities, and providing a platform for success.
-
ReStore
We opened our ReStore in 2000 as a non-profit home improvement store to support our affordable housing programs. The ReStore sells new and gently used building materials, furniture, appliances, home goods and fixture at a low-cost, while diverting thousands of pounds of reusable materials from landfills.
-
Land Acquisition
Land acquisition plays a pivotal role in our ability to continue to provide affordable homeownership opportunities. As land prices continue to rise throughout Central Georgia, we are constantly on the lookout for new land to purchase in Putnam County. If you have land you would like to donate or are interested in partnering with Habitat for Humanity of Putnam, please contact Murali Thirumal, Executive Director, at putnamcountyhabitat@gmail.com.
